Turning Conversations Into Content
I've always been a huge fan of podcasts, and at the onset of the pandemic I was eager to find ways to engage with my friends and peers in a way that still felt genuine and worthwhile. Enter: podcasting. I took my audio editing knowledge from years of self-producing my own musical projects and translated it into creating new and unique podcasts for various demographics.
Innovation Exchange is a series created by Startland that hosts a panel of unique Kansas City voices each month. Focusing on the stories of innovation in our community, these conversations originally took place in a live events setting at various venues around town. COVID was an opportunity for myself and team to turn these events into streamable content where we could reach an even wider audience than we previously had with in-person attendance. Taking that innovation even further, I aimed to condense that video content into a podcast for listeners to enjoy away from their screens. I composed the theme music, recorded the intro and outro voiceovers and edited the session to be optimized for a podcast format. You can view the original session recording here for comparison!
The Open Bottle Syndrome was originally concepted as a podcast series featuring myself and two of my Chicago nightlife friends discussing new restaurants, up and coming breweries and live music. The plan was to interview artists, chefs and tastemakers in unique settings, traveling around the city week to week. After I got settled in Kansas City we were able to re-start the podcast and gather steam for a fresh new season of food, booze and nightlife banter. We've even been especially lucky to secure sponsorship for various episodes! I composed the theme music, produced and edited this and every episode of Open Bottle Syndrome.
Metro Minutes was born out of a fan response for music-related content while I was the Social & Digital Media Director for Metro, Smartbar and GMan Tavern. Together with my coworker, and senior talent buyer, Joe Carsello we worked to lay the groundwork for a podcast that covered the Metro's rich history while incorporating personal anecdotes and interviews with Chicago personalities and recording artists. Unfortunately, due to COVID the Metro staff were furloughed and the podcast never made it past its third episode. I composed the theme music, produced and edited this episode, while producing and editing the first two episodes as well.
